What is Grim Arena™?

Grim Arena is a character based arena combat MMO set in a wacky universe of hay filled "Grimmies" and battle-thirsty Reapers. Players scout out and train fresh talent for the wildly popular bloodsport "The Grim Arena", hoping one day they'll be strong enough to earn an appearance during the prime time television broadcast and have adoring fans the world over.

What is an MMO?

An MMO is a Massively Multiplayer Online game. This is any game that hundreds (if not thousands) of people may play together at the same time. Some people think exclusively of questing around in a virtual world when they hear the term MMO, but it can describe many other types of games.

Hay filled Grimmies?

Players will be able to create and trade Grimmies to fill out their roster of arena fighters. As these Grimmies gain experience through battle they'll become stronger and earn more powerful weapons, armors, and abilities. Properly customizing these characters will be key to your success in the arena.

But really, Hay?

Grim Arena is a stylized game with over the top comic violence, but it is not grotesque or full of gore.

What is the gameplay like?

Matches in Grim Arena consist of a combination of tactical turned based movement and simultaneous turn combat. During every attack, both players will select their actions and then see the results of their decisions as their Grimmies, pets, and Reapers duke it out in exciting animated sequences. Grimmies can also unleash fighting game style combo attacks to add extra flair and devastation to a successful strike.

Can I play with/against my friends/enemies online?

Grim Arena will have a heavy emphasis on competition between players. You can challenge your friends to a good natured duel or your enemies to a grudge match. Go ahead and challenge complete strangers and make new friends and foes!

Will there be clans?

Clans will be an important part of Grim Arena and its player community. Players will be able to start new clans or join an existing one, pooling their collective strength and resources together. In the never-ending struggle for prestige and dominance, clans can war against each other both inside and outside the arena by fighting in special team matches or conducting raids on an enemy's Clan Hall; a customizable and upgradeable building where each clan conducts their private business. You can get a jump on the competition and start planning your Clans now.

Will there be Tournaments?

Yes, players will be able to engage in formal rated competition in addition to normal arena matches. Individual, team, and special format tournaments will be held frequently, with in-game rewards based on how you placed and the size of the tourney. Major tournaments will be held at regular intervals with even more fabulous prizes! Your performance in competitive events will be tracked with statistics and a numerical rating so you can compare your skills to other players and brag to your friends. Are there more places to fight and see than just the Grim Arena?

"The Grim Arena" is a large complex that is home to thousands of fighters. Players will navigate around a map of the city to visit different locations and fight in many varied and interesting arenas with their own unique look and challenges. Some arenas may even be just as dangerous as your opponent!

Will there be mounts?

We currently plan to have mounts available in combat, but it is unclear whether they will make an appearance in our initial release. We are working hard and will do our best to make it happen.

Who are these "Legends" I've been reading about?

The legends are the most famous and skilled competitors in the Grim Arena. Players will be able to test their mettle by fighting a legend alone or even as a group, earning valuable prizes and thousands of adoring fans if they can manage to win. As a Grimmie becomes stronger and more successful in the arena, it may be possible to become a legend themselves...

What are the "Reapers?"

Reapers are magical beings that a Grimmie may summon in combat to fight by their side or call to unleash powerful super attacks. Players will be able to control summoned Reapers as though they were a pet or Grimmie, moving them around the arena and using their skills and abilities. The origins and nature of the Reapers themselves is something you'll learn about in the future.

What else can I do besides fighting?

Players taking a break from the arenas will have lots to do. Players looking to trade, sell, or buy items will be able to visit shops, haggle with other players, or browse the auction house for the best deals. Industrious players will be able to craft items and equipment in their Clan Hall, while those looking to relax can hang out and chat with the rest of the community or just their Clan. Players can even take their Grimmies over to the Fairgrounds to compete in games of skill and chance, grab a stat enhancing treat, or other activities.

Will Grim Arena™ be Free 2 Play/subscription based/"Freemium" etc?

Grim Arena will be available to everyone free of charge. Players may choose to support the game by purchasing cash credit that can be redeemed for special in-game items, customization options, and privileges. As gamers we understand that overpowered "cash items" can ruin the play experience and are committed to keeping these items balanced with those available to all players.

Will I have to download the game in order to play it?

Grim Arena will have a client available for download. We also have plans for an online version of the game that can be played directly from our website. The downloaded client can take full advantage of a user's graphical hardware, so it may provide a richer visual experience.
