Cassiopeia was a star. The star. Her road to fame and wealth began when she entered Superstar Arena, Grim Arena’s sister event – an internationally renowned singing contest, watched by millions. The world immediately fell in love with the emerald-eyed siren, and their votes placed her ahead of the pack each week. At the end of the season she stood triumphant in the spotlight, as her rivals sank to their knees and wept in the darkness around her. A glorious future lay before Cassiopeia.
From there she went on to sell millions of albums, and played concerts to thousands of screaming teenage fans. She had her own television show, and starred in several successful movies. Her image gazed out from countless magazine covers and billboards, and she had arguably the most recognisable face in the world.
But as with so many before her, fame took its toll on Cassiopeia. And thanks to the same mass media which had created her phenomenon, the whole world got to witness her self-destruction. She was filmed staggering out of nightclubs, clutching the arms of strange and unsavoury grimmies for support. Audio emerged of her yelling abuse at the crew of her TV show. She punched members of the paparazzi in front of dozens of witnesses.
The last straw came when an undercover reporter provided a trashy gossip magazine with photographs of Cassiopeia taking part in an illegal underground singing contest, where the losers were fed to cows.
Not even her vast team of publicists could save her from the public backlash. Her show was cancelled, and her record label dropped her. No movie director would work with her again, and fans stopped buying tickets for her concerts. The magnificent world she had been thrust into was now stripped away from her, leaving behind a bitter young grimmie with an empty future.
Cassiopeia desperately wanted to recapture the glorious life she had lost. Every fibre of her being cried out for the adoration of the public, for crowds to shriek her name. But each attempt she made failed. She went on reality show after reality show, in the hope of rekindling the fires of her fallen star. All she received was mockery, both from the public and from the media which gleefully hounded her at every step.
She finally decided to leave the country, and travel to some out of the way place far from the harsh glare of media scrutiny, where she could lose herself and take stock of her life. So she boarded a plane to an unknown destination in the Far East, and disappeared. It was on this odyssey, as she trekked through snow-covered mountains, that she came across the Ryuku Ninja Academy. As it transpired, the ninja master who ran the academy was a big fan of Cassiopeia, and had personally voted for her dozens of times back when she was on Superstar Arena. Thus he offered to help her get back what she had lost, and make her a star once more.
A year later the media was shocked to learn that the former pop princess, who had been missing for so long, had reappeared and entered Grim Arena. At first it was treated as a joke, a mere publicity stunt designed to rescue her from obscurity. Until she tore her first opponent apart. Dozens and dozens of grimmies fell before the flashing blades of the emerald-eyed former teen sensation, no match for the deadly ninja skills she had acquired. Now Cassiopeia is one of the most popular and successful competitors in Grim Arena, and once again thousands cheer her name.
